Title: That's Another Law of Love
Mangaka: Yamagata Satomi

Synopsis: Kikuchi has been ruthlessly dumped by his girlfriend, and his classmate, Yada, volunteers to cheer him up. But Yada has his own secrets, which eventually come out, confusing Kikuchi. Bitterly, they both want to know, Why does Love + Sex have to be Man + Woman? Or does it just have to do with love? (from BAA)

Well, this marks my first "joint project" ever. Thank you very much to Bushido Angel Adventures for helping me in a pinch, especially ZL who did all the graphic work even though she was sick!

Hi, thanks for this, I love all things Yamagata Satomi! Hope you don't mind, but I've friended you (found you via Yshare). Is Maki from Manic Love the same as the Maki that pops up in Fake Fur? I've never read the end of FF, so I've no clue if he comes to a happy ending!

Yes, the Maki from Fake Fur is the same Maki from Emotion Circuit (See my note in this post.)

I don't know where they came up with Manic Love, but it has NO relation to the real title. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard.... *shivers*

Got to agree - Emotion Circuit makes total sense (I think I'd have called it Emotional Circuitry, but then I've done a bit of editing so I tend to go for anything idiomatic!). Anyway, well done with the translating. Maki gets a happy ending, right? Hopes hard...

Hm... circuitry doesn't convey the "completeness" of a circuit. I considered calling it "A Circle of Emotion," like the Italian version, but I decided to stick to the literal translation, even though it's awkward. I figured, Yamagata-sensei chose those words for a reason so it's best not to mess with it. In DMP's Fake Fur, it's called "A Network of Emotion," which isn't too bad. I don't know why they didn't stick with that.

I guess because 'A Network of Emotion' isn't as catchy as 'Manic Love', and they're always looking for the words that will sell the goods. Not that there is anything remotely manic about the story. I like 'A Circle of Emotion' actually - bet it sounds lovely in Italian! There's something very nice, though, about getting the literal translation because it gives you an insight into Japanese that you otherwise don't get. Mind you, I was always useless at translation at Uni!

Urg! Marketing! The "do what sells" attitude is really not my thing! :)

I'm sure their translation will be much better than mine, but I am a little worried. They changed the back of the book to make it sound far more romantic than it is. I'm sure they thought it would increase sales. It would be easy to slant the story that way, too.

I wish I were a better translator so I could at least get the right feeling across. Chapter Six captures it a little better, I think.

Oh, you're so lucky to be in Europe! We don't get vacations in August.

No, one of them moved and lost her internet connection (hopefully, it's only temporary). The other one is taking a really intense job training class. She still helps, but she doesn't have a lot of time. Highstandard needs a lot of attention. :)

Man, this is work exploitation :P *lol*

Well, the situation doesn't seems so bad (being only temporary, as you said). But if you want to speed up the process you can always make a clear announcement for part-time proofreaders in your lj. It shouldn't be too hard to find someone (generally it's translators and editors that are rare merchandise ^.^ )

Yes, it is exploitation!! *cries* In my opinion, people here have the unrealistic expectation that everyone should have access to anything at anytime, so, more and more, businesses operate 24 hours a day 365 days a year. I was shocked to find out the grocery stores were open on Christmas this year!

Oh, I need Japanese speaking/reading proofreaders. Well, not even that. Just people who can answer my questions.

Ahah, a disconcerting deformation of comfort and functionality XD But in some cases it's not too bad. Last year our hot-water heater broke during Christmas holidays... Believe me, I would have paid through the nose for not having to put up for an entire week without hot water and heating

Yup! I meant Japanese proofreaders. (English ones would be pointless since you're a native speaker XD). All the better if you need only clarifications ;) (this would reassure even the lazier ones XD)

Oh, I probably could use an English proofreader, too. ^__^ After looking at so much Japanese, I can't think properly. Things start to sound "natural" that aren't. :)

Well, I'm not saying they would materialize at the snap of your fingers ^^;; but considering your needs their job isn't too much time-consuming, hence the higher possibility to find someone willing to help you. Just do a good advertising to your request ;) for ex. in the releases posts and explaining the job specifications (part-time and 'answer to your questions'-thing)

*lol lol* I experienced that little inconvenience myself. The bad thing is that I wasn't translating, but writing something in my own language O////O;;
