New Releases: Website and "S"

Hello everyone,

Today I'm posting to announce two "new releases." The first (and most important) is our new PresenceDear website.

From now on, all our downloads, news, information, etc... will be posted over there. I hope you all will find it more organized and easy to use than this journal. If you're worried about missing new releases, we've have a subscription and an RSS feed. Also (for the time being) I will endeavor to post links to the website on this journal when anything of interest occurs. However, I will not be replacing broken links or adding new ones. Eventually, this journal will just be a tool to direct you to the website.

In all the "website craziness," I haven't had much time to translate. I'm a little behind schedule so I apologize for any delays. After I get a good 24 hours of sleep, I plan to start working full force on "Mouse" 4.

But, the good news is, I have a couple things that I finished before the website plans began! So... please go here to download our newest release, Yamagata Satomi's "S."

rockthecj deserves a HUGE thank you for both the oneshot and the website. She also deserves a month of relaxation and pampering to recuperate from this ordeal. I'm sorry I can't give you that, but I'm extremely grateful for your hard work. Thanks!

Saika Kunieda, Reflections in the Water

Hello everyone,

I have more Kunieda Saika for you today; a story called "Reflections in the Water." This was one of my favorite stories in this manga. It must have been someone else's favorite, too, because it was made into a live action movie in Japan called Itsuka no Kimi e. I prefer the manga version, though... ^__^

Naoko Momoyama, 1 Hour 17 Minutes

Today I have a oneshot by Naoko Momoyama called "1 Hour 17 Minutes." The story is kinda cute, but what really makes this oneshot interesting is the artwork. It's much bolder and less detailed than what you typically see in BL. I like to see people trying new things. ^__^

Yamagata Satomi, The Border of Plus and Minus

Hello again,

Three releases in three days. As they say, when it rains, it pours. ^__^

I'm really excited about this one. If Kunieda Saika is my "true love," then Yamagata Satomi is my "first love." It's because of her that I decided to learn Japanese in the first place, and this manga was one of the first things I ever attempted to translate.

This oneshot, "The Border of Plus and Minus," comes from the manga Three Quarters. For those of you who are familiar with Yamashita (he's also the main character in Yamagata-sensei's Fake Fur) this story takes place between the fourth chapter of Fake Fur and "What Begins at the End of Love." You may notice that the story begins on page 9. I've labeled the pages so that they correspond to the manga. At some point, I hope to complete the other chapters, although I may not do them in order.

I also want to thank rockthecj for all her input on the script. In addition to her excellent editing, she spent a tremendous amount of time assisting me with the revising process. Since she removed her "script chewing" from the credits page, I'm "forced" to embarrass her here. ^__^ Thank you very much!

Hello everyone,

Here is another oneshot from Sakai Kunie. This originally appeared in a shoujo magazine in 1991, but I don't think I'd call it shoujo. I've placed this under "other genres" on my user info, but I'm thinking of moving into the shounen-ai category. While I like stories that are not easily classified, it makes organization hard. Anyway, I found this story interesting. You can definitely see Sakai Kunie's interest in BL, even before she started drawing it under a new name.

Sakae Kusama, Carnivorous Animal's Table Manners

Hello again...

I stumbled across this manga while browsing on Amazon Japan. The name was so intriguing that I almost ordered it, without knowing anything about its contents. Unfortunately, lack of money stopped that impulse. Then, a few months later, rockthecj mentioned it to me, and I thought, "Ah, this can't be mere coincidence!" So I decided to translate it "for fun" in my "free time."

A little warning: This is the title story from the manga. It's also the third chapter. It stands fairly well on its own, but it's actually a follow up oneshot to a two part story about Ryou and Kishida called, "Kiss, Syrup." Andou is a new character, but some of you may still get the sense that you're stepping into the middle of something ongoing. You're not imagining things. ^__^

If you're interested in "Kiss, Syrup," or just interested in seeing more work by this mangaka, please let me know. If there's enough interest, I'll translate the rest, or maybe something else by her. I'm going to order some manga from Japan soon and I've got a couple by Kusama Sakae on my wishlist.

Sometimes I choose random oneshots from magazines, just to see what they're like. This is one of those. It's called "A Morning That Rarely Comes," by Haruki Fujimoto. It's fairly light yaoi... a story about a guy who delivers newspapers and a manga artist.

Saika Kunieda, Changing Odds

Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a good weekend. I've been very busy finishing up scripts (another Sakai Kunie oneshot, and two magazine oneshots.) But I hope to have Mouse 2 and Like As the Time... 4 done by the end of the month. In the meantime, here's "Changing Odds," aka, Like As the Time... Chapter Three. This is a sequel to An Uncertain Cycle, so please read that first, if you haven't already.

The wait was much shorter than I expected, thanks to my super speedy editor! (Love you, H!)

Happy Halloween, everyone!

Today I have an amazing oneshot from the amazing Saika Kunieda called "The Guardian." What can I say about the story without giving anything away? Well, this is Saika Kunieda at her darkest. There's death, twisted relationships, a touch of the supernatural ...all wrapped up in a gothic atmosphere. I loved this, but perhaps it's not for everyone. No fluff here! I'm curious to know what you all think of it.

Saika Kunieda, Lingering On The Way

Hi Everyone,

Here's some more Kunieda Saika for you. This is a oneshot called "Lingering on the Way." I kinda translated it for fun (stress relief) and Secret Box very graciously agreed to scanlate an English version for me. (Thank you!) At first, you might think it's a little strange, but keep going... Anyway, in the top left corner of the title page, you'll see a little blurb advertising sensei's newest manga, The Guardian. I've already completed the translation for the title story. I loved it (I was screaming the first time I read it) so I decided to push back the next chapter of Like As the Time... to get this done for Halloween. Please don't kill me! It will be finished and SOON!

Here's some stuff about the new manga, if you haven't seen it:

In addition to the title story, it's got "Show Me Heaven" and both chapters of "The Other Side of the Sky." So, fortunately, most of it has been scanlated already. You don't have to wait! The last chapter is insane. She actually has a warning before it starts. It's called "A Chance Encounter...in the Cosmos" or something along those lines. Maybe some of you have seen it in BeXBoy. But it's got space ships and aliens and a seme that looks like this:

If you think that's bad, you should see him naked! (I like the bulge below the belt in this picture... and the nose hair.) I'm not sure when (or even if) I'll get to this, but eventually you'll see it one way or another over at Bushido Angels.

Well, I've taken a small step into the world of shoujo. A very small step... eight pages. This is a mini oneshot called "Dark Eyes" from the manga, The Imaginary Garden, by Sakai Kunie. If you're thinking the name "Sakai Kunie" sounds a lot like "Kunieda Saika," well, that's because they are the same person. ^__^

The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese, Chapter One

This is the first chapter of Setona Mizushiro's The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese. This is a very challenging manga to translate (because it's written for an older audience and there's lots of text) but it's well worth the effort. Mizushiro-sensei creates such well developed and psychologically complex characters that I keep plugging along, despite the frustrations, just to find out what they'll do next.

Nanao Okuda, The Cosmic Tunnel

Here is a oneshot by Nanao Okuda called "The Cosmic Tunnel." This was one of the first things I ever translated, but I only found an editor for it recently. At the time that I translated it, there was nothing else by Okuda-sensei available in English, but I'm happy to see that the manga advertised on the cover of this oneshot, I'll Love the Neighbor, is now being scanlated by Bliss, and Vices and Devices is also doing Dareka wa Suki na Hito. Hi everyone,

It's been a while. Today, I have the first chapter of Kunieda Saika's Like As the Time Will Come When it Will Rain. I've already translated the entire manga (except for the supposedly "fun" extra, since it's handwritten. Ugh!) and I absolutely love it! It's a collection of oneshots, all very interesting with unexpected endings (...as the back of the book says).

Thank you to silvan_rain for introducing me to this manga.
A HUGE thank you to fayedoll and everyone at Dangerous Pleasure for giving me the opportunity to do this! (And providing the scans...) This is the best present I've received in a long, long time!

Now, I'm developing this fear of speaking Japanese because I'm more familiar with how 17 year old delinquents talk than relatively decent women. Can you imagine if the only English you knew came from certain kinds of music? Yeah... embarrassing.
